What is custom profiling?

Custom Acoustic Profiling is the answer when your guitar doesn't fit any standard profile. Every guitar has a crucial combination of wood, construction, resonance body, and pickup. The two most important factors for the overall sound are the guitar as a whole and the pickup used. Our profiles are always tuned to these two components together. But swap out either one, and the sound changes almost completely – the Acoustic Profile no longer fits, and the sound is lost.

Custom Acoustic Profiling

A look at an acoustic guitar from Boucher. Clearly visible in the picture is the built-in pickup model "Anthem" from L.R.Baggs. As with many acoustic guitars, the pickup was installed here at a later point, and it could just as easily have been a completely different pickup.

Tip: The L.R. Baggs Anthem combines an internal microphone with a piezo pickup. When using Acoustic Profiles, it's recommended to turn down the built-in microphone, especially with pickups of this type – otherwise its signal mixes in with the pure pickup sound and could alter the sound of your profile.

„These are great! Just as good as everyone says that they are! :-)“

– Duncan Floyd, guitarist for Back to the Future The Musical (London), the Mamma Mia World Tour, and the BBC Concert Orchestra

When profiles no longer fit

Given the huge range of guitars and pickups on the market, it's simply not possible to offer standard profiles for every combination of guitars from all manufacturers with every available – or even discontinued – pickup. That's why our shop only offers a limited selection of common model combinations. There are, of course, a few exceptions. Worth mentioning here are especially Taylor guitars, which are mostly fitted with an ES-1 or ES-2 system. This will change in the future too, once the new Claria systems are installed at the factory.

Custom Profiling as a solution

It is possible, however, to get around these difficulties, and the answer is "Custom Acoustic Profiling." With CP, your guitar and pickup are simply recorded, analyzed, and then turned into a profile using our special process. The process only needs two channels on the recording side, is straightforward to carry out, and lets you capture the exact sound of your setup, including the microphone used, in a single profile.

There are two ways to create it: either you have your own recording setup with a microphone, or you come to my studio. That's why we can offer this service worldwide, regardless of location – but we're also very happy to do it in person, on-site. In the end, you receive three individual profiles of your guitar: one Dry, one with effects, and one with a shimmer effect – ready for studio and stage.

All the details about the Custom Profiling offer can also be found directly in our shop.

And a word about trust when it comes to Custom Acoustic Profiling: you receive your finished profile before payment – to try it out first. That's our trust in the quality of our work, because you only pay once you're satisfied. This way, you take no risk at all and can take your time to be convinced of the quality.
